Installation documentationUse the headings to the right as a checklist. Click the title of each heading to show more information, and click again to hide it. The text and links shown under each heading depend on your selections of DME server OS, the collaboration system you are integrating with, and the DME database type. Your current selections are shown below. Click Change options to see documentation relevant for your setup. Most of the documentation is available in PDF and in HTML format. It is shown in a new window. | You cannot select Windows as operating system and MySQL as database at the same time. Please make a different selection of options.
Make sure that your server hardware is sufficiently sized, and that it runs the required software. This applies to
Also make sure that the server operating systems and the collaboration software versions are supported by DME. Reference: Hardware and software requirements (PDF) Reference: Running DME on VMware ESX (PDF)
Now you need to set up the firewall for operating DME with other elements in your setup - such as client access, collaboration system, database, and connectors. Reference (Exchange): Firewall setup (HTML)
Now you need to set up the backend collaboration system to allow DME access to mail files/databases etc. Reference (): Integration with (PDF)
If you are going to use the Apple MDM feature, there is a number of things that must be in place first. This is described in the DME online documentation. Follow the procedure: Reference: DME Server Administration Reference (HTML)
To get the DME software, you first need access credentials for the DME support site. Contact your DME partner or DME support for more information. Then download the following:
All of the above files, except the license and the clients, can be downloaded from the DME Install site. Clients can be downloaded from the DME Partner site.
You must also set up a database for working with DME. Running Windows, you have the following choice of databases:
You are now ready to install the DME server for your platform. Reference (Linux): Installing DME (PDF)
After installing, request and install an SSL certificate on the server. The installer will create a temporary self-signed certificate, which can be used while testing and configuring connectors, but which does not support actual client connections. For client connections, DME supports using the self-signed certificate, but we warmly recommend using a certificate from a trusted certificate authority for the reasons stated here: SSL certificates (Server Reference). If you want to use a self-signed certificate from Excitor, you can either:
Rename the file signed.cer to sslcertificate.pem, and install it on the server. You can find more details in the references below. Reference (Linux): Installing DME (PDF)
Many DME features rely on the DME server having access to an SMS gateway. DME ships with the open source Kannel SMS Gateway software for Linux and Windows. Reference (Kannel): Using Kannel with DME (HTML) Kannel website: Kannel website
Now you are ready to connect to the DME server for the first time.
This last step is VERY IMPORTANT. To change the SYSADM password, do the following:

To get the connector installation files for Windows, run the Connector installer (see link at the main DME Install site). Reference (Windows): Installing DME (PDF) To get the connector installation files for Linux, run the installer, and choose the Connector option. Reference (Linux): Installing DME (PDF)
In the DME web interface you need to configure the following (minimum):
Reference: DME Server Administration Reference (HTML) - Server setup tab Reference: DME Server Administration Reference (HTML) - Default settings Reference: DME Server Administration Reference (HTML) - Notification framework Reference: DME Server Administration Reference (HTML) - Provisioning
In the DME web interface, click the Connector tab to configure the connector. The configuration options depend on the collaboration system to which the connector connects. Reference: DME Server Administration Reference (HTML) - Connector setup
You now need to distribute the DME client to your users. This is done from the Provisioning tab. Reference: DME Client Deployment Guide 3.5 (PDF) Reference: DME Server Administration Reference (HTML) - Provisioning
Test the DME server thoroughly using a few, assorted test clients, and celebrate the fact that you're done!
